How a loyalty card on your phone works

A loyalty card on your phone, also called a digital loyalty card, replaces the paper card with a card saved on the customer's phone, iPhone or Android. Customers get it by scanning a QR code or tapping their phone on an NFC sticker, without installing an app. With each purchase, the merchant scans the card, points are added, and the card updates itself on the customer's phone.

That is what Wafly does for cafés, restaurants, bakeries, salons and shops in Algeria.

For the customer: three gestures

  1. Scan the QR or tap the phone

    The QR code or NFC sticker sits on the counter. The phone's camera is enough: nothing to download.

  2. Enter a first name

    A short form, then one button adds the card to their phone, iPhone or Android.

  3. Show the card at the till

    The merchant scans it, points are added, and a notification shows the new balance on the customer's phone.

For the merchant: the till fits in a phone

The merchant picks a rule: points on the purchase amount, fixed points per visit, or a stamp card. They set rewards, such as a free drink or a discount. With Wafly, our team comes to set up the card with them and place the QR code or NFC sticker on the counter.

At the till, they scan the card with the camera of a phone or tablet, enter the amount and confirm. No hardware to buy. A customer who forgot their phone can be found by number, and a mistake can be undone for 10 minutes.

What brings customers back

The card does more than count points. It tells the customer at the right moment, on their phone screen:

  • when a reward is unlocked;
  • on their birthday, with a gift if the business offers one;
  • when they have not been back for a while;
  • when their points are about to expire;
  • when the business sends an offer, such as double points on a quiet day.

Frequently asked questions

Does the customer need to install an app?

No. They scan the QR code with their phone's camera, or tap their phone on the NFC sticker, and the card is added to their phone, with nothing to download.

Does it work on iPhone and Android?

Yes. On iPhone and Android alike, the card receives the same updates and the same notifications.

What if the customer does not add the card to their phone?

Their card still exists and their points still add up. They open their customer space on the website and show their card's QR code at the till.

Are points lost when the customer changes phones?

No. Points are not stored on the phone: the business keeps them. The customer asks the counter to recover their card, scans the QR code shown to them with the new phone and finds the same balance.

How much does a digital loyalty card cost for a business in Algeria?

With Wafly there is no subscription: 0 DA to start. A customer sign-up is never counted; after that, each returning customer costs a small price depending on the type of business, from 5 DA, and never more than 3,000 DA a month, paid in dinars.
